Li Shengyi believes that the key technology breakthroughs in 3D printing in the future will focus on three aspects: accuracy, efficiency and materials. According to the data provided by Li Shengyi, the current 3D printing accuracy of metal can reach 0.1mm level, so the surface of the processed parts is still rough and needs post processing. With the further advancement of laser technology, Li Shengyi expects the future precision to be in the range of 0.01 to 0.001 mm.

In addition, the current SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) technology uses a combination of single-head and single-beam lasers, resulting in lower manufacturing efficiency. According to the data provided by Academician Lu Bingheng, the average quality of raw materials per hour for metal 3D printing can only reach 3 kg, which cannot meet the requirements of large-scale industrial production. Li Shengyi believes that the technology of simultaneous multi-laser beam processing will help improve manufacturing efficiency.

Li Shengyi said that from the perspective of the entire technical solution, the most important materials are still ceramic materials, composite materials, gradient materials, biological materials and other new materials are not currently well used in 3D printing. He also stressed that although metal powders such as titanium alloys currently suitable for 3D printing are expensive, the overall production cost is still lower than that of conventional material reduction due to the extremely high material usage rate. According to the data provided by Li Shengyi, the titanium alloy parts of a fighter aircraft need to be first manufactured with a cross-section of 2980KG, and finally processed into a final part weighing only 143.8KG. The material utilization rate is only 4.83%.

In addition to industrial-grade printer products, Li Shengyi also pointed out that desktop machines that use ABS plastics as materials are becoming more and more mature, and the price has dropped drastically, and will enter the popularization stage. He expects to be able to reach the magnitude of ordinary home printers in the future and will bring huge boosts to employment and the economy.
