Flavor enhanced packaging

NutriSystem, a slimming products and services provider based in Horsham, Pa., used the principle of fragrance for the slimming industry and introduced Aquaescents water bottles. This water bottle represents the first commercial application of ScentSational Technology's sealed fragrance release technology.

Aquaescents water bottles are equipped with three lids, each of which is filled with an FDA-approved fragrance containing natural fruit aromas that can be transferred to water. NutriSystem believes that the dual effects of a close connection between the sense of smell and the taste can help dieters absorb enough hydrates while they are satisfied, effectively eliminating hunger.

According to Steven Landau, chief technology officer of ScentSational, with the extension of food shelf life and the improvement of control technologies for different environmental conditions, the average food can be stored for a longer period of time, but the unique flavor of fresh food is greatly reduced. What comes here is the lack of sensory appeal.

During the processing of the Aquaescents, peach, lemon and berry aromas were added to the lid of the 53-mm polypropylene bottle of the 26-ounce sports water bottle to infuse a light, fresh fruit flavor into the bottle without sweeteners and preservatives.
