There are clear cross figures on the mountain. Different religions give it different meanings. According to the Buddhist scriptures, Gang Rinpoche had built a magnificent palace in the abdomen and Fachang, which was often converted by Falun, and was called the mountain of Buddhism. So far, Hindu, Jain, Bon, and Buddhist believers have worshipped it as a center of the world. It is the "Mecca" in the hearts of these people. To worship on Mount Kinabalu becomes their lifelong dream. After the worship, they become the glory of their lives.

According to legend, the Tibetan monk Milarepa once practiced in the mountains and won the battle with the leader of the Bon religion, Josh Phenom. This gave him the power of the Dharma. It is said that in the Tibetan Year of the Horse, the best results were achieved. If you go around the mountain, you can redeem your sins. If you turn ten laps of the mountain, you will be able to escape from hell in the 500 rounds, and you can turn into a mountain circle to become a Buddha. It takes about 3 days to complete the turn of the mountain. The total length is 52 kilometers. Buddhists turn here to go round the clockwise direction, while the Bons go counterclockwise.

India referred to it as "Kyrath" and foreign countries translated it into "Kailas" according to the sound names.
