2010 US paper industry statistics

Ppzhan: According to the 2009 paper and paperboard industry statistics released by American Forest & Paper Assn, the output of these products decreased by 10.6% from the previous year to 79.1 million tons.

Dr. Stanley Lancey, an economist at the American Forest Paper Association, said: "This result reflects a decline in the US paper and board industry, but in the first six months of this year, our paper and board production has increased by 8.6% over last year."

The survey, entitled "Statistical Summary of Paper, Cardboard and Wood Pulp in 2009," shows that US paper and paperboard exports have fallen by 10.9% from 2008 to 13.8 million tons. At the same time, the import volume of these products has also decreased by 20.5% compared with 2008, only 13.4 million tons. This shows that the US paper trade is shifting in a positive direction. Since the export volume of paper products surged in the first half of 2010, and the import volume remained declining, Dr. Lancey believes that the US paper holdings will remain positive throughout the year.

In addition to the above conclusions, the report also released a series of valuable statistics, including:

1. Production and supply data of paper and board products at all levels.

2. Fiber utilization and recovery data.

3. Capacity data for pulp, paper and board.

4. Industry employment, wages and profitability data.
