Edible packaging materials can also use shells of edible shellfish such as shrimps, crabs, clams, and oysters as main raw materials, and chitosan can be extracted therefrom.

The goal pursued in the development of edible packaging in recent years is to use digestible protein, fat and starch as base materials to make a transparent food packaging film that does not affect the flavor of the packaged products.

The development and utilization of edible packaging in China started late, the production process is not mature enough, and the application fields are still limited.
