Tin printing process technology

Tin print is printed on a metal plate, so it is also called metal printing. It is generally printed on the surface of a tin-plated iron or aluminum plate.

Tin-printed products are mainly used in the manufacture of food packaging boxes, stationery boxes, children's toys, and interior decoration products.

Iron sheet printing uses hard metal substrates, which can easily abrade the printing plate. Therefore, lithography is used to transfer the graphic through the blanket cylinder. Therefore, the structure of the printing press is basically the same as the ordinary printing paper lithographic printing machine, but The metal plate cannot be bent like a paper and stuck to the impression cylinder. It can only pass horizontally between the blanket cylinder and the impression cylinder. In addition, offset printing presses must be provided with a drying system.

The process of tin printing is:

Sheet Processing → Printing → Drying

First, metal processing

Before printing, use dilute alkali solution or alcohol to clean the surface of the metal plate with dust, oil, etc.

Second, printing

The surface of the metal plate is smooth and has no absorption. Therefore, the tin printing ink must have good adhesion, and also has good heat resistance, light resistance, solvent resistance, resistance to cooking and mechanical impact resistance.

On the metal plate, it is usually printed many times, the first time the bottom layer varnish is printed, and the protection metal is not rusted. The second time, the white ink is used as the bottom layer to cover the color of the metal, and then the graphics are printed in order according to the printing color sequence. Lastly printed gloss oil to protect printed graphics.

Third, drying

The metal surface is not absorbent, so the ink needs to be dried every time it is printed. Drying methods can use steam, infrared, electric heat and so on. The prints come in from one end of the drying lane and dry when the other end comes out. The humidity of the drying lane varies depending on the printing ink, generally between 150 and 200°C. The temperature of the base varnish needs 200°C, and the drying temperature of the varnish is about 150°C. The temperature is too low, the drying is not complete, the temperature is too high, the ink is discolored, and the mechanical properties are reduced.
