Abstract A new type of efficient pulp swelling agent has been developed. It is especially suitable for papermaking of household paper. The optimum formulation and production process of the expanding agent was determined by orthogonal test. After repeated application tests in the laboratory and paper mill, the optimum amount and method of use of the expanding agent were determined. In addition, the function of the swelling agent was examined experimentally. In addition to the puffing and softening effect, this product also reduces the papermaking ration, increases the dewaterability of the papermaking blanket, and reduces dust flying.
