It is said that everything is difficult at the beginning, but painting seems to be an exception. It seems that individuals feel that painting is simple and dying. The work is excellent and not strange, but the talent is a very metaphysical thing, right?
Right! It doesn't feel like you are immersed in practice, it doesn't mean you lack talent. Maybe at all, you are in the wrong direction! Do not believe that I will show you the mistakes often made by novices. Out of these misunderstandings, you can improve quickly!
First, I want to paint everything.
You draw because you have a strong desire to paint, which is very simple. Although your painting skills will limit you, you will not limit yourself - you have so many ideas for painting! On the first day you draw a Fire Dragon Wars robot, the next day you paint the landscape, then you want to practice painting the whole city. You feel that you are constantly inspiration, but if you can stop and think about it, then just fine...
What is the downside?
Painting is not a simple skill. Although each painting is composed of lines, it is simple to move hands, but the most important thing is the creative process in the brain. For different painting categories, the process in the creator's mind is different. Think about it: What is the difference between painting and writing? Is it a skill? Isn't the latter drawing some letters? Forget the tool for a while, you can use a ballpoint pen to draw with a pencil. So if you can write, you can draw. You even have your own style!
The difference is intent, not the result. Different parts of the brain produce different intents - different purposes. Writing a word and drawing a horse may be a few lines, but for the brain it comes from two very different processes.
For example, painting an animal is usually a matter of "feeling" the whole pixel, all you need to do is put the feeling on the line. On the other hand, to draw a city, mathematical thinking is a must—if the line is too short or the angle is wrong, it will destroy the whole picture. Compared with lines, landscape paintings need to pay more attention to light and shadow, and use sketched lines to reproduce the paper.
Trying to draw all the ideas will invisibly increase your difficulty. Maybe you can draw a beautiful cat, but it doesn't mean you can draw a background for it without any difficulty. For your brain, building a person is very different from building a spaceship.
what can we do about it?By painting a large number of different themes, you can improve the "comprehensive painting skills" (B). This is a huge concept because it contains all the themes you can draw, so growing up is very slow. It is recommended to focus on the tips (A) as much as possible, rather than trying to do 100%. For example, when you focus on painting cats, you are more likely to achieve perfection in this area.
You need to decide what you want to paint. Rather than trying to mix the Latin style with the Chinese style, I don't understand why they are not harmonious together and have to focus on it. Don't arbitrarily jump from one topic to another.
Try to improve the technology of a theme in a period of time, and most importantly, don't use all your paintings as an indicator of "comprehensive painting skills." If you are good at painting cars, no one will marry you as a parallel painter because you can't paint a lion!
Second, I seem to know how to paint, but I still don’t paint well.
You have seen many dogs in your life, so of course you know what they look like! It’s just that you are not the same thing. You try to draw your claws and look very strange. It doesn't feel like they should have. I originally knew what they should look like, but why is it not good?
You try to paint again, again and again. The claws drawn each time are different, but none of them are well painted. Ah, how good is the talent for painting! Obviously you don't have it, so you can only work harder...
What is the downside?
In fact, you don't know what the claws look like. Because if you know, you will paint as you like. Do not believe? Please, let me describe the details in detail. Yes, not to draw them. I know, you really want to draw them, but please wait patiently. Imagine if you have already drawn it, what kind of picture is presented, please describe it in detail!
Many times you find yourself saying nothing about what you want to paint. You always feel like you can draw all the details. But the surprise is that you don't know the details at all. Yes, the rhinoceros has a big head and a corner... Hey, is it a corner or two? There is a small eye somewhere on the face, where is the mouth last? ?
The more questions you ask yourself about this object, the more you can understand why you can't paint well. Yes, you really don't know much about what you are trying to paint. You can only know if this is what you want when it is painted, which is why you worked hard over and over again. Every time, you will rediscover something, but that doesn't mean you are getting closer and closer to the picture you envision. You are just playing a guessing game!
You don't know exactly where the eyes should be drawn. Only when you finish painting, will you think it looks good.
what can we do about it?
Of course, you still have a good chance of finally guessing the correct combination of lines, but what are you doing for this? Just to prove yourself, can you draw it from your imagination without any help? If this is your goal, okay, then do it, but don't blame your failure for no talent. Since you choose to play this game at the highest difficulty level, don't cry if you lose.
To draw from imagination, you first need to have a secret. Just a dog's memory is not enough, you need to convert the image into a line of memory. It's like a photo of a dish and a recipe. When you're just a cooking beginner, you're almost impossible to re-recipe with photos.
The picture in my mind is like this: "The body of the four legs, the neck is long, the head is long, the long furry tail, the hoof." With all this information, you can recognize a horse's painting, but it is not enough for you to draw a realistic painting. This is just describing a naive graffiti!
The cheats in my mind should be more detailed. For example, the ratio between the leg and the torso of the body, and the part where the leg is bent, is to draw a curved joint. Not only do you have to know that the horse's body is covered with hair – you need to know the direction of the hair. So the information in your mind should look like this:
You can create such a cheat in three ways:
First: draw the same object multiple times with different reference objects. Each time your brain finds a quicker way from a variety of references to help you draw it quickly.
Second: You can construct a painting secret (reference table) by analyzing the characteristics of all references. Practice more, practice makes perfect, and you will remember these methods soon.
Third: find some well-organized reference materials (experience tutorials, etc.). Practice and practice until you remember the methods of these references. (But be careful that these authors are not necessarily correct, don't learn the wrong way!)
Before you start painting, you must thoroughly understand the whole painting. If you are not interested in this aspect and don't want to learn, use a reference. Nursery rhyme! It is good to use memory painting, but the premise is that you must first print the memory of this picture in your cheats.
Third, not willing to give up
You and I know that painting is not a simple matter. Every minute you paint, you will be stumped by different problems. The problem is getting more and more, but you have not given up. After a few hours, when you add color to the painting, no one can see where it is wrong, and you will not stop here.
What is the downside?
To be sure, you are trying to decorate the bad part, even if it looks like you originally thought, but obviously, you have something wrong. Don't think that you can cover it by coloring, this is impossible. If the leg you painted is in the wrong direction, you can't recover this mistake, so why should you continue? Even if you cover it with gold, you can't change its physiological structure!
I made a mistake from the beginning, but I refused to admit it (my painting in 2010)
what can we do about it?
If you can feel that your picture is wrong, stop. No matter how much time you spend in this creation, you can still save some time if you stop now. Creating new paintings usually takes less time than repairing old ones.
If you are afraid that you can no longer paint something better, you have no intention of revealing a bigger problem: you are not confident in your skills. This means you should need more practice before you spend hours creating. I can understand how good you want to show others in front of others, but the fact is that you are not like this now. Don't try to hide the facts and pretend that you never make mistakes. Learn how to avoid it next time.
Fourth, each painting is sacred
Not only will you draw each painting, but you will also post them on social media for your friends and fans to see. Whether it is a masterpiece of Linyi, a sketch, or a trial creation, you share everything. You are like this.
What is the downside?
On the surface, it is harmless, but the problem is hidden deeper. When you realize that your work will be seen by others, you will unconsciously make something that meets the needs of others. That painting must be perfect! Even every picture you send is not allowed to have errors.
If you want to try something new, the mistake is inevitable. If you want to avoid them, the best way is to avoid new things altogether. If you share each of your pictures, you will find that even if you just want to fill your sketchbook, you will only choose the posture that you usually draw more comfortable. Just thinking that your fans will see your imperfect paintings will make you feel scared!
With the public onlookers, you won't let every step of your risk take it easy. If you are likely to fail, it is best not to play anything, or don't think about winning. Because you are afraid of facing failure, you will miss the opportunity to learn in failure!
What should I do?
There are two ways. First, draw for yourself. Just share your favorite work and leave the sketch to yourself. When trying to paint a theme, it's a cool thing to think about showing the entire page to others (see how efficient I am today!). In the subconscious, this will make you no longer keen on experimentation. Trying to paint is not for you to show off - you should learn from the test.
If you really want to showcase your results, it's best to show your work with a bunch of paintings, so that failed attempts will not be as eye-catching.
Another way is... relax! Learn to think about how easy it is for others to see your deficiencies. Tolerate your own imperfections and quietly indulge your own deficiencies. It is best to show all your work to others, good or bad. Rather than just drawing what you are good at.
When you are a beginner, every piece of work seems to be sacred. Once you start creating, you have to complete and show it. This is not the case. Go ahead and try more - like drawing a draft and then tearing it off. This is not the last painting in your life, nor the best work you have ever done. The more you are reluctant to paint, the harder it is for you to progress and change.
Errors are inevitable. Don't pretend that you have never painted a bad work. Be honest about your shortcomings, then find out where you are wrong and think about how to avoid the same mistakes next time. Go paint, for the better of yourself, not for the eyes of others.
5. I only paint what you want to see (to cater to others)
Maybe you are not the best artist, but there is always something you are good at. For example, people like the horses you write. Whenever you publish a new work about horses, this work will always be praised, which is undoubtedly delightful. Your work on other topics is also quite good, but there is no one to care about, and slowly you will focus on the content of the praised creation. This is to cater to the audience's creation.
What is the downside?
When people praise your artwork, you feel comfortable, and then naturally you tend to create works that people are more likely to be interested in. Until this demand becomes ill, there is a problem, because you are worried that the market reaction is not good, you may never be able to break through yourself and create great new works of art.
Obviously, you become a slave to your own audience, your job is to please them, and your own needs for creation are put on hold. On the one hand, you get people's praise, but you lose the ability to create something you are interested in and express your feelings about the world. Wouldn't it be better if you were praised for your creation?
Fan work is cool, but make sure it doesn't be the only thing you can author (Image from Paint Foxy From the Five Nights at Freddy's Series in Adobe Photoshop)
What should I do?
up to you! If you like to draw a pony, then go paint, not because people want to see it. If you want to have your own fans instead of using existing styles or themes, you have to make your own things. Catering to a fan's work may be a great way to get people to follow you, but it shouldn't be the only way to get everyone to know you.
Sometimes it's best to grab a few real fans instead of pleasing those who don't really care about you.
6. According to the lines of others, my creation is my creation.
You have a lot of ideas, but you find yourself unable to write. You find that you can solve the problem by referring to the shapes and lines of other authors. Sometimes you even trace the outline according to a photo.
What is the downside?
It doesn't matter if you just draw and play, but if you want to be a good artist, it doesn't help you. Arranging the layout of the furniture and building a house is not the same thing. You can't call yourself a builder because you have a sofa in the living room. In the same way, you can't say that you can call yourself an artist because you create on the basis of other people's paintings.
This is not just about how you define the artist. Starting a painting is a very difficult thing in itself. If you just evade it, then you will never learn how to paint. The predecessors who painted those lines of art did it. Only if you don't have any illusions about the "shortcut", you can do it.
The most shameless thing is that when you use someone else's ready-made work or copy the painting according to the picture, you lied that it is original. It's like riding a bus and racing against someone else in a running game. So even if others flatter you, no matter how good your work looks, the facts will not change, that is: you! root! this! Do not! meeting! painting! painting!
This has nothing to do with the results, but about the process.
What should I do?
The method is very simple, that is to meet the difficulties. When it's difficult for you, it means you can't easily make it now; so when something that has been difficult for you has become easier, it means you are getting stronger. On the contrary, escaping difficulties will only become more and more difficult. Once you start to overcome difficulties, it will be very embarrassing when you face these problems again.
You can imagine how talent makes everything easy and easy, then fool yourself, but it's because you are lazy! When others are learning how to paint around the clock, you say, "Oh, I don't have a talent, so I have to... make something."
If you want to be a bad artist, you have to adjust your mindset and practice hard. If you don't hesitate to go wrong, you want others to praise you. You can... Then why are you reading this article?
Seven, avoid the facts: this is the style of the Lord
You know that you are not the best, but it is more convincing. When others praise you because of the efforts of this work, you can be beautiful, but once someone says that your work is not good, you will be excited and angry. How dare you tell you that there is a problem in your work? ? That is your own painting, only the uncle knows what is the best!
What is the downside?
First, two definitions:
Facts - the truth that everyone recognizes, based on objective attributes
(eg water is wet)
Opinion - the truth recognized by some people, based on subjective attitude
(eg: roses are beautiful)
People comment on your work just to express their opinions. "It's beautiful!" This is not a fact, because not everyone will agree. This comment does not "definition" that your artwork is beautiful and does not change its state. It shows that someone likes your work.
Similarly, when someone says "you can't paint," this is their opinion. This does not mean that you will not draw (according to some objective criteria), but this person does not think that your painting skills are very high. Their views will not change the truth!
The problem is that humans tend to simplify all thinking and quick reactions. The fact is that everyone agrees, but the “everyone†here is actually a simplification of “everyone I have askedâ€. If you ask ten people, each of them may create a "fact" by stating their opinions!
When you look for answers through someone else's evaluation, every comment you hear can be very dangerous. Sometimes it's best to ignore them completely (no evaluation, I am still learning). But of course you won't get any positive comments, so you will never know that your picture is good!
There are 2 solutions:
Draw a perfect picture to get positive opinions.
Draw something that is not perfect and then take advantage of every negative opinion.
The first way is impossible, you can never please everyone (you can simulate this by showing your work to a good audience). The other is dishonest, as you said: "Only those who support me are right."
how should I do it?
Let us return to the true state of opinion, the expression of personal feelings. For example, if you don't like tomatoes, you don't have to explain it to anyone. You just think that they don't taste too good, this is not awkward or embarrassing. Unless someone asks you how the tomato of his favorite home tastes. Even if you say bad things, it will not make the original good tomatoes worse, but the farmer's uncle will be disappointed.
Everyone has the right not to like your art, just like you don't have to appreciate Mona Lisa. Some people say that your work is very poor. Nothing, there will be some people who say that your work is very good, please treat these evaluations equally. However, there are still some objective criteria to measure objective facts.
We create definitions to distinguish things. If something doesn't fit their definition. It is very abnormal, or it is not that thing at all. If you come across a bird that doesn't lay eggs, it means it's not a bird. If you see a horse with wings, it's not a horse, but if a horse's knee is bent, It is still a horse, it is just a normal horse.
This means that if someone says that wolves have long legs, they are only telling the truth, not a point of view. It is an indisputable fact that you shout "This is my style", but it is impossible to change the fact that your wolf's legs are indeed shorter than the real wolf's legs. People don't necessarily like opinions, but people are still very easy to discover the truth.
Your attitude towards the facts determines the quality of the facts themselves. Your anger at the facts just means that you want them to be different. For example, when someone says that your bear has a claw that is more like a dog, you will be angry that you have no ability to draw a realistic bear. Once again, you will think that some people have proposed such criticism based on the "facts" that he fabricated himself, and your anger is vented to the "facts."
If you want to be a better artist, you need to be more open to criticism. Criticism is just a discourse about your work, just that. You can ignore them and use them to improve your paintings. Ask the commentator, why do you think the painting is not like a real bear? What would you do to make it more realistic?
Your critics usually see more problems than you. Listen to the facts, learn from them, and apply them to the picture. Gradually, such comments will be less and less, because your work is gradually improving! Don't pretend that you are perfect, or you will never be perfect.
Summarize the seven sins of beginners:
I want to paint everything
2. It seems that I know how to draw, but I don’t always paint well.
3. Not willing to give up
4. Every painting is sacred
5. I only paint what you want to see.6. According to the lines of others, my work is
7. Avoid the fact: this is the style of the LordPainting seems to be very simple, and our misunderstanding of painting can easily become an obstacle to our improvement. I hope that the above seven sins will never be your obstacles!
