Fluorescent inks are widely used in offset printing because of the thick ink, bright gloss, good stability and weather resistance of printed inks printed with fluorescent inks. Based on the application experience of fluorescent inks for many years, the author has summarized some precautions for using fluorescent inks for reference by peers.

Characteristics of colored fluorescent inks

The conventional four-color printing process generally refers to a printing process that uses yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), and black (K) inks to reproduce various printing colors. Fluorescent ink is a spot color ink that is not formulated. It can be divided into colorless fluorescent ink, colored fluorescent ink, and double-wave invisible fluorescent ink. Offset printing is commonly used for colored fluorescent inks. Currently, the colored fluorescent inks commonly used on the market mainly include fluorescent yellow, fluorescent orange, fluorescent blue, fluorescent green, fluorescent red, fluorescent pink ink, etc. The color of each color ink is shown in Fig. 1. Colored fluorescent inks have good gloss, wide color gamut, high brightness and saturation, and pure color. Among them, the color gamut of the colored fluorescent ink is outside the color gamut of RGB and wider than the color gamut of CMYK, so that the color effect that the four-color ink cannot achieve can be reproduced in the printed matter. In addition, its unique ink characteristics and the solid feel of the prints can greatly meet the high quality requirements of beautiful color prints.

Precautions for using colored fluorescent inks

When using colored fluorescent inks, the following aspects should be noted.

1. Layout design

The overprinting principle of mixed color matching of colored fluorescent ink and CMYK four-color ink is similar to the principle of three primary color mixed color overprinting. For example, when fluorescent yellow ink is mixed with CMYK four-color ink, the overprinting effect is shown in Fig. 2. Because the colored fluorescent ink has a special color effect, in the general graphic design, it does not overlap with a large number of color patterns, and is often used for the large-area solid printing or the special mark of printing highlighting. The color matching can refer to the color shown in FIG. Six different color fluorescent inks are available. With the wide use of colored fluorescent inks, there are more colored fluorescent inks available on the market for users to choose, which provides more space for the diversity of graphic design and print patterns.
